Our 11 yr old daughter, who loves to cook, is searching for an authentic French dish. A good tried and true family recipe would be best.... and if it has a story with it even the better

Our 11 yr old daughter, who loves to cook, is searching for an authentic French dish. A good tried and true family recipe would be best.... and if it has a story with it even the better! This is for our homeschool support group that does an International Day/Potluck every year.  She will be doing a presentation on France plus sharing the recipe with about 40 families.  Thank you!

Any recipe from Julia Child would be good. I especially like her omelette recipes!

Any of Julia Childs quiche recipes would be great. They are great served room temperature. They are fairly easy to make and would also travel well.

My great-grandfather's family brought with them a cookie recipe when they immigrated from France.  Unfortunately it's cooked on a very specific iron that gives the cookie the fine grid pattern of a waffle cone.  We didn't have a Gaufrette iron growing up, so we used a Pizzelle iron.  A boy in my high school French class who was of Italian decent accused me of taking Italian cookies into French class.  A pizzelle is similar but has a different pattern and often anise flavored.  The gaufrette is vanilla and butter flavored and doesn't have any leaveners like I've seen in many pizzelle recipes.
