I found a recipe for a King Cake on the Food Network web site.  It looks interesting, but perhaps a lot of work.  Has anyone tried it, or does anyone make one on a regular basis?

I've made it but not recently.  We used to have someone at work who made one every year and put the "baby" in it.  One year I got it so had to make the cake the next year.  I guess the tradition is whomever gets the baby makes the next cake.

The person who finds the baby in their piece of cake is the lucky one and they get to make the following years King Cake.

Sorry, Barbara.  I've never made one but I have heard about them.  I think there was a recipe on here for that too.

Interesting concept that I've never heard of. But then again, Mardi Gras is not a big deal on the west coast. I'll be interested in seeing a recipe.

The cake has a small trinket (often a small plastic baby, said to represent Baby Jesus) inside (or sometimes placed underneath), and the person who gets the piece of cake with the trinket has various privileges and obligations

Hi Barbara,I wish I could.I don't own a camera at this time ,just my cell phone. My daughter in law would have to take the picture on her phone and E-mail it to me so I could post it.She tried to load pictures that I took with my new phone on this computer and she couldn't.She was able to load pictures from my old phone but not this one.I didn't want to change phones because that one was great. Hubby insisted that I needed to upgrade. If she isn't working I might be able to get her to take a picture for me then I will post it.I have great pictures of my bread and they couldn't be loaded.:(

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Mardi-Gras-King-Cake/Detail.aspx If I make one this is the recipe I will use.Instead of extra sugar on the kings cake I think I will use a little food color to dye the frosting or glaze.I will dye it yellow, green and purple the Mardi Gras's colors. This recipe makes two King's cakes I'll just cut the recipe in half and make only one.

interesting ---on the local news this morning ----------the anchor was at a bakery -------helping decorate king cakes-

they tucked the small baby into the baked cake on the bottom side

makes more sense------because that little trinket would probably melt if you put it in the oven
