A heavy sugar syrup or simple syrup is equal portions of water and sugar. Heat in a small sauce pan until all the sugar has melted. Brush lightly over the cake to keep it moist or make a dry cake moister. If you want to flavor the syrup use a juice and water combination or add liquor to the water. Most of the alcohol will evaporate off but not all. If you don't want the syrup quite so sweet don't add as much sugar.
