  I purchased a kit for Lemon Bread in the US and when I returned to Canada, I noticed it was Best by Oct 2011.  Would it still be OK to bake this bread even though the date has gone by?

Product within it's shelf life would have the best quality. I wouldn't recommend that you do use it.

Lizz B. I would call the number on the box.  I am guessing that they will tell you that the quality would not be optimum.  My experience with out dated products is they do not rise as they should.  Now that was a cake mix not a quick bread.  The problem I guess would be the baking powder.  Quick breads that I have made usually do not contain baking powder.
The other email I would send is to the corporate office of the store where you made your purchase.  There is no way a product that out dated should be on the shelf.  I guess the exception would be a salvage store.
Bottom line is I do not think it would do you any physical harm to make it but it just might not be the best in flavor or texture.
You also might want to check the little box by your post where it says...Mark this as a question...the staff at VBB would more likely reply to it if it is flagged like that.

Try to remember to check dates on food packages before purchasing them.

I searched high and low for those kits, and never found one, regardless of which store I used.  It sounds as though I was lucky not to find any of them!!  Way to go, Nestles.

I purchased one a few years ago. Nice lemon flavor.  I have not seen them in quite a while.
I figure quick bread is so easy to make that if I wanted to make another it would be easy enough to make a lemon bread from scratch.  It was nice to have in case I did need something quick.

Have never seen them, but I wouldn't use it that far beyond the "Best By" date. Smile

I have used things past the "death" date and they have always come out ok.  If it were mine, I'd try it rather than throwing it away.  You'd only be out an egg or 2.

GRANA here;
After the death of a neighbor's wife, I helped him to clean up pantry& freezer. I found several out of date pkgs. I called  the TOLL FREE #on the pkg was told that "would not be harmful to eat but would not be of best quality" Later I read a newspaper article that said that dry mixes in undamaged pkg should be good for  up to 2 years past date; though quality would not be optimal., I would use it & take a chance.
My neighbor told me to throw it away, but I took it home, baked it &  served it to him on my  next visit; he liked it but was angry I had not thrown it away as instructed!
