Hi! I would like to know what could cause a cake to be pitted with holes after baking! My friend told me she used a box cake mix.
Could it be the oven, or overmixing, or another cause?  Thank you!!

In Response to Re: Got a Question for VeryBestBaking? Ask it Here! : Clicking on the recipe name does not send me to the recipe.  Instead, it opens up the window that would display the picture of the finished product.

Bethany and VBB -- that happens to me too but if I click around -- I'm certainly don't know or understand what is happening -- I get the recipe.  I keep getting just the photo of the item and then finally the recipe.

Cynthia:

You're exactly right!  The holes are most likely caused by overmixing which can often incorporate too much air.

I also had this happen to me.  I purchase a cake mix at a "discount dollar store" it was a flavor I had never seen, box was in English and French.  I did not pay attention to sell by date and apparently the cake mix was not fresh.  When I called about it I was told the reason my cake did not rise properly and it had holes was the mix was past the expiration date. Live and learn...check expiration dates.

Good morning VBB ~  It's early and I'm already cooking up a storm - thanks to you.

But this site is grinding to a halt.  I've been around the 'net this morning and everything seems OK,
but, oh it's slow here.  It will take 1 - 2 minutes for this post of work.
I sure hope it speeds up today.
More thanks.

Thanks VBB - I just had trouble getting back in here .... but I kept trying.  It's worth it.

BTW - this morning I've already made two batches of  fudge, three of peanut brittle, one of chocolate toffee, two of the magic mint chocolate bark. I have cookie dough waiting the 'fridge and all is 'go' for chocolate peppermint wafers.
~Whew~
lol lol -- the more difficulity I have getting in here to chat - the more I bake.

Hi Nancy!  Thanks for your input.  I'm still not getting any recipes to read out for me and I'm so frustrated after having spent so much tome logging in many of my favorite recipes.  I was hoping I could print them out for my daughter.  I'll keep trying since it sounds like you have been able to acces yours.  Is that right?

Hello VBB!
I'm still unable to retrieve my recipes.  Any suggestions?

After 'clicking' a few areas, it appears I can access the shopping list but don't get any instructions with the recipes.  That's OK for me but not enough info when I want to pass along my recipe.  Still having issues with this.  Thanks.

Bethany - as soon as I see a recipe I want - I immediately print it.  This morning I saw one I wanted to print .... never happened.  I could click all I wanted but nothing happened ... and I had a difficult time getting away from it.

Anyhow - my immediately printing of a recipe sure makes life easier ... I have the recipe when I need it.

All I have to do is find it ~blush~blush~

I am new to the VerBestBaking. Just to say, I am very pleased at the recipie's I have been seeing here. My Question is this: "What are the brownie points for?" I have tried searching for the solution, but only found how to earn them. Thank You!

Good question, they expire at the end of the year(they did every year so far) & we all are waiting for the answer.

Brownie Points have historically been used to enter sweepstakes and win great Nestle products.  We are working on improving the program so that it can bring value to our VeryBestBakers once again!  We'll be sharing a survey with you soon so that you can give us guidance on how YOU would like to see that done.

In the meantime, please don't fear about losing your points!  We're looking into ways to give you "credit" for what you've done this year next year!

~sigh~  If we had private messaging we could exchange emails.  Sometimes I see people needing or looking for something and I think. "Wonderful, I'll message her/him, get their address and mail them what they need."
