Hello Retaj !

I am sorry to hear that you are having this experience with our website! I would like to take a closer look at this for you. Can you please let me know if this is happening on the message boards or are you trying to share a VBB Baker recipe? Any additional information you can give me would be very helpful. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Good Morning VBB ~  Yesterday I bought a new set of measuring cups, inexpensive ones at WalMart.   This morning I was making a pot full of hummingbird food and grabbed the new 1 cup measure.
It looked SO big ... wow.
So I filled it, leveled the sugar and then tried to pour it into an "old" measuring cup.
I don't know exactly how much but it certainly held a lot more sugar than the old one!
How on earth can I check what a "real" cup is?
TIA - and thank you again for such a valuable and fun site!

Nancy, I'm going to stick my 2 cents in here for what it's worth..(we know 2 cents isn't worth much anyway)
If you are going to use JUST that set for a recipe and if all the cups are a bit over sized then the recipe will come out ok.
You could check using tablespoons in each measure.
1 Cup=16 Tablespoons
3/4 Cup =12 Tablespoons
1/2 cup = 8 Tablespoons
1/4 Cup = 4 Tablespoons

If I were you , if this is a name brand set I would contact the manufacturer. If it is a set from the dollar store or some off brand maybe keep that set for the humming bird food and if you make suet cakes for the birds in the winter save the set for that.

Thanks Nikki ..... How do I know which set is the "correct" one?  After I wrote the first message I pulled out all my sets of measuring spoons to try them.  They all appear vastly different - they always have but I just use which ever one is handy.  (I always use which ever cup is handy)
Each spoon is apparently different - I just scooped a tsp of sugar with that spoon from each set and poured it onto a sheet of waxed paper.
Nothing scientific here. lol
And I have 5 or 6 sets of measuring cups.  I use so many because I bake so much.  Ditto with measuring spoons - I have many many sets and use which ever one I find first in the "cooking" drawer.
I suppose this isn't a very serious problem because I bake OK.

I could try your measuring method for each set, couldn't I?

And I just made a new recipe batch of cookies that called for 2 Tblsp egg. (good grief).  I doubled the recipe and decided that doubling would equal one egg.   Thank you very much for your measurements -- that will be printed and taped inside a cupoard door.

Nancy, I think that no matter where you buy the measuring cups or spoons(or what manufacturer) they will all be different.  It's kind of like clothing, same size...different fit lol.  And they probably think nobody will ever notice!

Maybe once you have a set that is "just right" clip it together with a ring from a binder, pretty sure you can pick them up at office stores or hardware stores. I just got a set that came with the ring attached. the binder ring is easy to undo so you can take them apart while baking and reattach after washing. Or wash while they are attached.

TIFFANY AT VBB - FYI, several of us have reported the "it's gooey" problem on Ask VBB, several times... Several people at VBB have responded that they will look into it, and that's all the further it has gotten. In fact, I think you were one of the respondents! The gooey notice comes up when one is trying to share a recipe, not on the message board.

Nancy, I never thought about measuring cups not being correct.  I have several pyrex ones for liquids and a set of stainless ones for solids.  I also keep a 1/4 cup in my brown sugar container, a 1 cup and 1/2 cup in my flour container.  I guess I'll have to check them but I've never had a problem with stuff not coming out right.

Judy I've never had a problem I was aware of.  I was just so astonished to SEE the difference on that new set.  Oh, my goodness..... that really made me curious.
My favorite two sets are ancient Tupperware and I trust them.  I like them so much that a couple months ago I went to the Tupperware web site and ordered a new set - very, very expensive.  I don't like them at all.  They have a pour spout like a cup for liquids!!  And a big, BENT handle that is nothing except in the way.
Anyone got an old Tupperware set they'll send me??

I do I have two sets and don't use both.  You are more than welcome to have one. Plus I just got 2 new sets this weekend, metal so I probably will not be using the Tupperware ones much. If you would like to PM your address I will send them.

Oh wow Nikki .... that's too much to ask.  A Tupperware measuring cup set!  Why don't you use it?
I have a couple sets of metal ones too - which I rarely use.
Several years ago I was dumping a metal cup  of flour into my precious Kitchen Aid -  I DROPPED IT!!
It took off a bit of the white plastic covering of the beater.  What pain!!

But I'm sending you a PM ........ maybe we can work something out.
THANK YOU.

I was wondering if anything was decided about our points???????  Are we just accumulating them for no reason or will something be coming out about them this year???  Next year????  Never???  Just wondering. I'm sure others are too.  Thank you!

I have tried several times to post a recipe and I also get "gooey in the middle" message.  Sometimes it will post after several tries but most times it won't post any way to get around this?

Well, it has been several months since I proposed the idea.  Can you please let me know what the Web Team has decided.  Even an idea on there thoughts would be great!

Thanks!

VBB..Is there a way that at the bottom of the posts where the "New Post...Reply to this post... Report Abuse... Ignore....or Contact..." are could an "Add to Recipe Box" be added then we do not have to type the recipe into the recipe box and with luck we would not get the "gooey in the middle" message?

Hey Very Best Bakers !!

I want to first thank you all for your patience as we looked into the issue of the "Gooey in the Middle" response you are receiving when trying to submit your own recipe to VBB. It appears that this issue has been resolved. I attempted to add a recipe myself to the website and first received the same message, however, when I attempted to submit a recipe a second and third time, I was successful in doing so! If any of you are still having an issue with submitting your own recipe to VBB, please email, chat or call us directly to let us know. It is much easier to gather the needed information from you, through these channels, when you are having a technical issue on our website. Thank you all again for your patience!
