My choc chip cookies come out flat and crisp and I like them thick and chewy.  Could it be my oven? I have a gas range.  My sister has an electric oven and her cookies are just the way I like them.  We seem to do everything else the same.

Hey Laur!

We are very excited that you came to us with your question. We have shown that a lot of bakers omit the nuts from their recipe which can cause a flat cookie. The nuts actually do help the texture of the cookie and help them to rise. If you are omitting the nuts, we recommend that you add an additional 1-2 tablespoons of flour. If you try this and find that it is not helping, we recommend trying one of the texture tips on our "Baking Chocolate Chip Cookies Just Right" page. I am providing the link to this page for your convenience: http://www.verybestbaking.com/Resources/Baking-School/Articles/Baking-Chocolate-Chip-Cookies-Just-Right.aspx

I hope this information helps you create a cookie that you enjoy!

lol Wink Another way I can make my cookies fat and chewy is to add twice the morsels and twice the pecans!!
Hey, it works.

Laur b, I have also found that using butter makes the cookies a bit flatter and crisper.  Margarine will give a "puffier" and softer cookie.  If you are using butter and your sister is using margarine that may be the difference as well.
Oh, and welcome to one of the best sites, if you want recipes you have come to the right place!

Hi Audrey, we certainly appreciate the feedback from you, one of our Very Best Bakers!  Be sure to visit the "What's New" section from time to time to see what changes we are making to VBB.  We also are now featuring some new spring recipes and introducing our new seasonal Lemon Bread Kit with Lemon Zest Glaze.

Why does my chocolate chip cookies ALWAYS come out too puffy?  I follow the instructions.  I like when there are kinda of flat.

Thank you for the 2 new dark choc. recipes. The dark choc cherry fudge sounds really
great. I have everything except the dark choc. The dark choc. bark looks good with the
potato chips, peanuts, and pretzels. I will have to try that one too. I will be talking to the
manager of our Super Walmart next week.  I want the dark chips!!!

Good morning Sheila!

To make a flatter Original Toll House Cookie, increase butter to 1¼ cups (2½ sticks) and increase granulated sugar to 1¼ cups. Be aware though, increasing the butter and sugar will cause the cookies to bake up flatter, therefore, crispier!

Good luck with this recipe, and enjoy!

Hi Carol!

I am so glad to hear that you are exciting to try our new Dark Chocolate Morsels, and the new recipes formulated for them! They are super yummy, so I am sure you will enjoy them. So you know, the Dark Chocolate Morsels are brand new, and shipping out to retailers nationwide. It may take a few months for them to gain a wide distribution. We do encourage you to speak with your store manager so they know you are looking for them.

I hope you find them soon!

Hi VVB - Tonight my brownie points total 6,810.  I understand that it will be changed by moning but wanted you to know in case that meant a hitch somewhere.

In this rural area my little local WalMart has been carrying the new Dark Chocolate for several weeks.  Of course the giant store in the neighboring town has them too.  The other stores in this area don't have them yet .... I've asked each manager about them.
I've used a lot of them in cookies and candy .... I love them!!

Nancy, where did you get the info that the brownie points were going to be changed?  I checked the posts under Brownie Points and there was nothing current.  I currently have 74275 and wonder what they have decided to do with them.  They could send me 74275 dark chocolate chips to try. (not bags, just chips. that would still be a lot of chips!)

lol lol  71330 chips!!!  Now I wonder if I can resist opening a new 12 oz. bag and counting!!  lol lol lol

Nikki -- 6,810 is the ....hmmmmm?...... "set" number of points for me.  In the past the correct number changed pretty frequently - always dropped back to 6,810 and in a few hours changed back to the correct number.  That hasn't happened for some time so I was surprised to see it again.  And this morning the correct number was back 'up there'.

Sometimes when the correct number switches back to 6,810 I can go to My VBB.  It also shows 6,810 but if I wave my browser (?) over my avatar shown on my last post, it shows the correct number.

Whew, did the least knowledgable poster on this site make any sense?Tongue out

Nancy, at least you have a decent amount of points. I have been gathering them since early in 2005 and as of right now, I show 2,555! I seldom check them unless someone on the boards asks about them.

I truly have lost faith that the boards will ever be straightened out. The promises have been made and seldom kept and as of this coming Wednesday, it will have been 6 months since the new boards made their debut. Private messaging is gone, swapped recipes are supposed to be available but, who has time to scroll thru the entire recipe base to find them? I don't! I have also noticed that many have asked about the ones they had saved in their recipe boxes because they are not there anymore.

I know many of you consider this one of the best sites around but, I only come onto it to keep up with some of the original posters from the old site. I have missed several days in the past few months and didn't worry about catching up as I did before. I enjoy reading about everyones trials, tribulations, etc and offer prayers for those who need them but, it really is not the same anymore.

Ann:

Swapped Recipes are currently mixed in with all recipes: if you search for something like "chocolate cake" you'll get results from both Nestle and our Very Best Bakers!  We are working to add a search button to let you search just Very Best Baker recipes; stay tuned!
