To our valued VeryBestBakers:

We love to hear from you and to answer your questions about the site.  Unfortunately, we've been missing some of them in various threads and want to make sure they are in one place so they get answered (and for others to see if they have the same question)!  To help fix this problem, we'd like to ask that any questions be placed in this thread.

Since we launched the new VeryBestBaking, there's been something missing. Your swapped recipes were a big part of the old site and we want to make them even more important here. We're doing this in a few steps so you can enjoy recipes as we get them live.

Recipe Boxes
You've asked us to bring back your swapped recipes. In a few days, you'll see all your old recipes in a newly-organized recipe box. Nestlé recipes and community recipes will be flagged so you can see which ones are new.

Add/Edit Recipes
In a few weeks, you'll be able to add new recipes and change the ones you created.

New Community Recipe Section
We're still working on the best way to display the latest and most popular recipes for the community. Look forward to this in 2011.

If you have a specific, private or urgent question about the use of this site, please feel free to use our Live Chat feature found on our "Contact Us" page or our direct email form: http://www.verybestbaking.com/General/ContactUs.aspx

Thanks for coming to VeryBestBaking.com for your baking needs; we appreciate the time you spend here!

Diane:

Great question!  You can just double the ingredients, without making adjustments, and will get double the cookies!

If I don't have the refridgerated cookie dough called for in a recipe, can I just make a batch of toll house chocolate chip and continue?

But of course!  Toll House Refrigerated cookie dough is great when you're short on time or can't wait to decorate but if you enjoy making cookies from scratch, go for it!

That isn't exactly true. NEVER double salt without tasting. Normally it would be the original amount for one recipe and 1/2 portion of the amount for the 2nd batch. Also, many recipes will tell you not to double them. Also, for every cup of regular, all-purpose flour in your recipe, use 1 - 1 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder or 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. Those are other ingredients that do not always double well.

I learned by trial and error. And extra salty cookies are not always the best.

But, if you want something really different, make chocolate cookies without the salt. Bake them and as soon as you remove them from the oven, sprinkle them very lightly w/coarse sea salt. Very good!! Especially on chocolate coated cookies.

VBB, you posted( posted at 10/30/2010 9:34 AM EDT in reply to Cam) that the swapped recipes would be working BEFORE Thanksgiving, I looked all over the site and did not find them. Did you meant 2011?

Fran:

We had some delays in getting the swapped recipes back. We're sorry that we gave you bad information before. Our bakers have given us great feedback on what you want to see done to the site and we're trying to make those changes. Some of those take longer than we thought, which we apologize for.

By end of day Friday, any swapped recipes you had in your recipe box will be back there. Your recipe box will have a new look so it should be easier to navigate.

Thanks!

Hi VBB -- just a little suggestion....
Some of the "saved" topics on top of a couple of the forums are just too long.  Could they be frozen and a new one started?
Many thanks.

Mary:

Sorry, but there are currently no plans to bring back Raspberry Morsels. We checked with our baking experts and here's how you can make them at home. Hope this helps!

Place 2 cups (12–ounce package) Nestlé Toll House Semi–Sweet Chocolate Morsels in medium, heavy–duty plastic bag or airtight container.  Add ¼ teaspoon raspberry extract; seal bag or cover container.  Shake to coat.  Store for 24 hours to allow sufficient time for morsels to absorb raspberry extract.

The raspberry flavored morsels can be added directly to your recipe or melted according to morsel package directions.

Melanie:

We weren't able to find any recipe with that name. However, we tracked down one that was similar. Could this be what you were looking for?

DATE SCOTCH BARS

½ cup Nestlé Toll House Butterscotch Morsels

2 tablespoons butter

½ cup sugar

1 egg

½ teaspoon vanilla

½ cup undiluted Carnation Evaporated Milk

1 cup sifted flour

½ teaspoon baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup chopped nuts

¾ cup chopped pitted dates

Melt Butterscotch Morsels and butter together over low heat in a small saucepan.  Combine sugar, egg and vanilla.  Mix well.  Add Carnation Evaporated Milk and butterscotch mixture to egg mixture.  Mix well.  Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.  Gradually add to butterscotch mixture.  Blend well.  Stir in nuts and dates.  Pour into buttered 9-inch square baking pan.  Bake in a 350° F preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.  Cool.  Frost with Butterscotch Icing.  Cut into 24 bars.  Makes 24 bars

Butterscotch Icing
Melt 1/3 cup Butterscotch Morsels and 1 tablespoon butter together over low heat.  Cool slightly.  Add 1 ¾ cups sifted confectioners’ sugar alternately with 3 tablespoons undiluted Carnation Evaporated Milk.  Blend well after each addition.  Beat to spreading consistency.

Makes about 1 cup
