Always bake cookies or brownies before decorating with icing.

Cookie Art
Use your favorite cookie cutters for rolled cookies. Or, make a stencil by cutting your own pattern out of heavy paper. Use a knife to cut around the stencil onto rolled out cookie dough. Decorate cooled baked cookies white frosting. Tint frosting with liquid food coloring for pastel shades or, for more vibrant colors, use paste coloring (available at specialty stores near the cake-decorating supplies). For a thinner, glaze-like frosting, stir a small amount of light corn syrup into the prepared frosting. Add your choice of candies or colored sugars as a finishing touch.

Frosting Cookies or Brownies
Use a pastry bag with tips, use commercial frosting in tubes, or a plastic bag with a corner snipped off. If spreading frosting with a knife, thin frosting with milk to desired consistency.
