Nut Substitutions

Replace nuts altogether in the Original Nestlé® Toll House® Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe with: 1 c. quick- or old-fashioned oats, uncooked; 1 to 2 T extra flour; 4 c. crisp, ready-to-eat cereal (like oven-toasted rice cereal); 2 c. chopped dates; 1 measuring T grated orange peel; 2 c. raisins; or 1 c. peanut butter.
Confectioner’s Sugar in Cookies
Add to Favorites!

While it’s possible to make the Original Nestlé® Toll House® Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe with all confectioner’s, or "powdered sugar," this produces a very uneven browning pattern. To use all powdered sugar in the Original Nestlé® Toll House® Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe, omit both granulated and brown sugar, and use 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar. This produces a sticky, moist, soft dough, and a baked cookie that’s puffy, light and airy with a delicate texture that melts in the mouth. Alternatively, you can use 1 c. powdered sugar and 1/2 c. packed brown sugar. This produces a puffy, delicate, cakey cookie with an attractive appearance and more of the traditional Original Nestlé® Toll House® Chocolate Chip Cookie flavor.
