Products - TFAs (Trans Fatty Acids)
What are Trans Fats?
Trans fats are unsaturated fatty acids.
Trans fats
are produced by partial hydrogenation of unsaturated
vegetable
oils. In fact, a small amount of trans fat is naturally
occurring in animal-based products such as beef
and milk. What is the RDA for trans fats?
The scientific community has still not established
a Daily Value for trans fat.
As a rule of thumb,
it is
more important to monitor total fat than just
trans fat. Health experts recommend that you keep
your
intake of
both saturated and trans fats combined to 10%
or less of the total calories consumed each day.
For a healthy
individual who eats 2,000 calories daily, that
amounts to 22 grams of saturated and trans
fat per day. Sources:
