Tips for Little Kids' Parties
For children under eight, the key is to keep everything as small as they are:
• Keep the guest count small. As you probably know, when little ones get wound up, it's hard to for them to wind down. If you invite one guest for each year of your child's age, your day will be a lot more manageable.
• Ask another parent to come and help. You never know what will happen, and having backup assistance is essential. Your friend can help keep the kids focused on games while you prepare food, etc.
• Small food fits small hands. The minimum amount of assembly or preparation will keep your table and your guests' party clothes from getting too messy. Ladyfinger sandwiches, precut pizza bites, melon balls and carrot sticks can make a light lunch. Decorated cupcakes are an easy alternative to a big crumbly cake.

Tips for Big Kids' Parties
For children eight-years-old and up, choose activities that are as high energy as they are:
• Piñatas are fun, but require close adult supervision. Fill a purchased piñata with prizes that are a mix of candy and small toys.
• Make water balloons. Although this game can turn to chaos, kids love it, especially on a sweltering day!
• Organize games like Red Rover or Dodge Ball, which work best in a fenced yard. Tell parents ahead of time so kids can bring extra clothes to change into before serving cake.
• Send the kids on a scavenger hunt. Hide small objects throughout the backyard, give the kids clues on what to look for, then watch the fun.

Cut the sandwiches into strips ("ladyfingers") to so kids can eat as much or as little as they want without waste.
